Some of us have had Big dogs AND Small dogs so can see this issue from both angles, but i think we can all agree - some small dogs can be a little antagonistic. They have no concept of their size, and their courage far outweighs their stature, they have little weight behind them and small teeth, they are all bravado - of course this doesn't apply to the gentler breeds! My previous dogs were German Shepherds and a Rhodesian Ridgeback, the amount of times especially my Shepherds were affronted by a tiny dog, barked and lunged at was countless (one was more forgiving than the other who would snarl).
The most memorable experience for me was a tiny terrier who locked on to my dogs neck and swung there not touching the ground - I had to physically remove it. My dog took it well as most big dogs do, but that does not mean that small dog owners don't need to be vigilant and keep their dogs checked near big dogs - one bite and it is all over.
As a big dog parent, I was very mindful of the potential danger that a large breed automatically brings with it, as a small dog parent I am mindful to keep dogs out of harms way and watch interactions very closely. We all have to take responsibility as the big guy is not always the aggressor nor the small guy the victim.
